All of the patients’ symptoms pertaining to objective (observable symptoms example: Skin Rash) & subjective symptoms (non-observable example: headache) are collected followed by investigations such as blood work, X-ray etc. and finally Disease is Diagnosed!
So, why knowing Diagnosis is Crucial for Homeopathy prescription? It is a common misconception that Diagnosis is of no importance to a Homeopathic practitioner. Although the Homeopathic medicines are not solely selected on the basis of diagnosis, still diagnosis plays crucial role in Homeopathy prescription. Let’s talk about these aspects: 1] The very first one is knowing the Prognosis of the Diseases: Prognosis means forecast of the Disease; that is to say, whether the treating condition is curable or not or whether the disease is solely curable by surgery. For example: Difficulty in swallowing can be due to many reasons such as tonsillitis or esophageal cancer. Tonsillitis is curable but esophageal cancer needs palliative treatment that is temporary relief of symptoms. 2] For Case Management such as dietary restrictions, lifestyle changes or auxillary management For example: oxygen therapy in COPD that is Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease where lungs are incapable to function; intravenous fluid in severely dehydrated patients are some of the examples. 3] To Prescribe Homeopathic Medicine:
4] To select Potency suitable for the patient: This is a big one..if you are interested I have a separate video for this. Potency selection is a huge topic. 5]To know whether patient is improving with the treatment: For example: blood sugar levels or cholesterol levels. 6] To prevent spread of infection: some diseases such as measles, chicken pox, tuberculosis and off course Cororna Virus are infectious and require patient isolation. A well-informed Homeopath is aware of this and can correctly advise his/her patients regarding preventing spread. So, to conclude, I’d like to say that a Homeopath must have knowledge of disease to know unique symptoms for Homeopathic remedy selection, for accurate potency selection, to provide appropriate advice as regards diet/lifestyle changes/self isolation is needed. |
