Arnica is a plant remedy commonly known as Leopard’s Bane. This plant is found on the slopes of the mountain in Europe, Switzerland, North Germany and Siberia. In earlier times, Natives used this plants’ poisonous juice to kill the leopard hence the name, Leopard’s Bane.

Arnica acts on Muscles, Tendons, Bones, Central Nervous System and Gastro-intestinal tract. This medicine is prepared from entire plant including the roots of the plant.

An individual needing Arnica as a Remedy is Mentally sad, morose, cannot focus, they want to be alone and are indifferent about things or people. It is a good remedy after Roadside accidents to promote absorption of blood and prevent suppuration (pus formation). These patients who are victim of roadside accidents may be unconscious, but they answer correctly when questioned, which is a prominent feature of Arnica. Arnica patients don’t want to be approached. They are extremely afraid of anything or anyone approaching them as they feel they will get injured.

Physically, Arnica patient walks by bending at the hip joint. The injured parts turn black, blue with sensation as if parts were bruised or beaten up. Anything and everything on which h/she lies seems too hard. Arnica patient cannot lie down as everything on which h/she lies seems too hard. Arnica is particularly useful in contusions and Concussions. Overall, an individual needing Arnica will be aggravated at rest, lying down and from wine and better by contact and motion.

Potency and Repetition:
It is a good idea to start with low potency. Low potencies include potencies such as 6X, 12X or 30C. (For example: Arnica Montana 30 C). Start with one dose that is 4 pills. If you do not observe any effect of this medicine for two days, take another dose. Stop taking the Medicine if symptoms worsen and consult with your Professional Homeopath.

Disclaimer:
This is not a Medical Advice. It’s a general indication for injuries and muscle aches. Homeopathic prescription is based on each individual’s mental, physical and emotional detailed assessment and final prescription is made on individuals’ personality. The recommendation on Potency and Repetition is generalized as there is no ‘one size fits all’ for Homeopathic Prescription. This post is a good guide for First Aids.

Why Diagnosis is Important in Homeopathic Treatment?

8/6/2020

Disease Diagnosis is a process. All of the patients’ symptoms pertaining to objective (observable symptoms example: Skin Rash) & subjective symptoms (non-observable example: headache) are collected followed by investigations such as blood work, X-ray etc. and finally Disease is Diagnosed!
So, why knowing Diagnosis is Crucial for Homeopathy prescription?

It is a common misconception that Diagnosis is of no importance to a Homeopathic practitioner. Although the Homeopathic medicines are not solely selected on the basis of diagnosis, still diagnosis plays crucial role in Homeopathy prescription. Let’s talk about these aspects:

1] The very first one is knowing the Prognosis of the Diseases: Prognosis means forecast of the Disease; that is to say, whether the treating condition is curable or not or whether the disease is solely curable by surgery. For example: Difficulty in swallowing can be due to many reasons such as tonsillitis or esophageal cancer. Tonsillitis is curable but esophageal cancer needs palliative treatment that is temporary relief of symptoms.

2] For Case Management such as dietary restrictions, lifestyle changes or auxillary management For example: oxygen therapy in COPD that is Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease where lungs are incapable to function; intravenous fluid in severely dehydrated patients are some of the examples.

3] To Prescribe Homeopathic Medicine:
  • To differentiate common/clinical/disease symptoms from characteristic symptoms/unique symptoms which helps in Homeopathic prescription.
  • Prescribing medicine by location of Disease:
    • In case of pneumonia, the lobe of lung affected upper middle lower right or left, gives clear picture of the remedy since some Homeopathic medicines have affinity for particular side of lung or lobe of lung.
    • Medicines are selected on sphere of action, on some body part, for example China offincinalis for liver, Crateagus for Heart, Berberis for left Kidney problems etc.

4] To select Potency suitable for the patient: This is a big one..if you are interested I have a separate video for this. Potency selection is a huge topic.

5]To know whether patient is improving with the treatment: For example: blood sugar levels or cholesterol levels.

6] To prevent spread of infection: some diseases such as measles, chicken pox, tuberculosis and off course Cororna Virus are infectious and require patient isolation. A well-informed Homeopath is aware of this and can correctly advise his/her patients regarding preventing spread.
So, to conclude, I’d like to say that a Homeopath must have knowledge of disease to know unique symptoms for Homeopathic remedy selection, for accurate potency selection, to provide appropriate advice as regards diet/lifestyle changes/self isolation is needed.

What Diseases can be Treated with Homeopathy?; The Scope of Homeopathy

7/21/2020

To understand What Diseases can Homeopathy Treat, first it is necessary to know how they are classified. Per Dr. Stuart Close in his book The Genius of Homeopathy, Diseases are classified as:

  1. Diseases from Mechanical Causes
  2. Diseases arising from Chemical Causes
  3. Diseases Arising from Dynamic Causes
    1. What are Diseases arising from Mechanical Causes? These are the ones arising due to due to external physical force, foreign substances such as Injuries, tissue destruction, skin lesions or by birth defects, absent organs prolapsed or displaced organs.
    2. Disease arising from Chemical Poisons such as acids or alkalis require use of chemical or physiological antidotes.
    3.  Diseases with dynamic causes roughly sub classified as (1) mental, atmospheric, thermic, electric & climatic. (2) Dietic, hygienic, contagious, infectious.

So, what are the diseases Homeopathy can cure?

As you can guess, Homeopathy treatment is curative for Dynamic diseases where the disturbance is on functional level. That is, infectious diseases like small-pox, bacterial diseases, typhus, typhoid fever, malarial fever, diphtheria, tuberculosis & pneumonia secretions.

With Homeopathy treatment, excretions may be increased or decreased, skin eruptions, sores and ulcers can be healed, hormonal functions can be restored to normal and mental state can be restored to normal. Homeopathy has limited scope to cure cancers or dislocated bones or damaged tissues or problems arising due to absent organs or by birth disorders. Hence, in cancerous condition, even though cancers are incurable with Homeopathy, still, growth of tumors may be retarded or arrested.

Homeopathy can thus cure wide array of diseases where the disease is on functional level meaning, tissues & organs are capable of restoration without surgery.

Vital Force...What Maintains Health Condition in a Human Being?

6/3/2020

Today’s Topic is about the concept of Vital Force which is 9th , 10th  and 11th principle/aphorism of Homeopathy from The Organon of Medicine constructed by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann. I’m referring to the principles on which Homeopathy; the system of medicine is based. Well, principles 9, 10 and 11 talk about Vital Force.

Vital Force is a dynamic or spiritual force responsible for maintaining normal bodily functions. Our material body without the vital force has no sensation, no function or self-preservation. It is the Vital force that regulates growth, nutrition, repair, secretion, excretion, self-recognition, self-preservation and reproduction.

To give an example, a dynamo that is driven by steam or any other external force, through electro-magnetic induction, converts surrounding magnetic field energy into electrical energy. Likewise, our central nervous system is a machine driven by chemical force derived from food which through the electro-vital induction from surrounding vital field, converts vital energy to nerve current or impulses. So, human body function depends on this force necessary to carry its operation on central power station.

Just like gravitational force is invisible but we observe it in practicality, eg: Earth holding the moon’s position via gravitational force, tidal waves created due to moon’s gravitational activity and so on… Homeopathic medicines have this dynamic action on living organisms. Once the homeopathic medicines come in contact with tongue papillae; tongue being rich in nerve supply, transmits the medicinal properties to the central nervous system that is, brain. The medicinal properties of the homeopathic remedies are transmitted to the central nervous system. The central nervous system arouses the needful actions like optimal hormonal secretion, blood supply regulation and thereby restores a person to healthy condition.
